As a little girl I begged my mom for horseback riding lessons for three years before she gave in. It was all downhill after that! Lessons lead to leasing a horse. After a summer of adventures leasing a horse I began working at the local stable doing everything I could to earn riding time. I was mucking stalls, feeding horses and worked up to teaching horseback riding lessons and guiding trail rides for the next six years. It was heaven on earth. Nestled in the foothills of the mountains with tons of horse trails leading to thousands more acres of National Forest, we could ride for days if we wanted to.

A couple years later I had saved all my babysitting money to buy my first horse. I worked at the stable in exchange for my horse’s board. She was a small rescued gray Arabian named Rosen Gray. Rosie was also my first horse training project. I can hardly believe that has been over 20 years ago. You never forget your first horse, they hold a special place in your heart!
